Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa

Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa calls itself  “Australia’s most environmentally responsible tourist destination.” With so much emphasis on eco-travel, this is just one of many reasons to shortlist this vacation destination. This resort is set in the rugged Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area and is built around a restored homestead within its own private conservation and nature reserve. In an elite class of Australian spas and getaways, the Resort has won a lengthy list of awards including the 2011 Conde Nast Traveler Runner Up, Favorite Overseas Leisure Hotel, Australia and the South Pacific, and the 2011 TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice Awards, Category Relaxation and Spa Hotels in the South Pacific Region.

The Blue Mountains Reserve is bordered by the tranquility of meadows, dense forests, and the sheer cliffs of the Wollemi and the Gardens of Stone National Parks. It’s less than three hours by car, or 45 minutes by helicopter from Sydney.

The history of the Wolgan Valley is long and fascinating. Its geological beginnings are 80 million years old, and stem from the time when Australia separated from the landmass Gondwana and volcanic activity created the Great Dividing Range. The Range, running along the east coast of Australia has been shaped by the wind which carved deep valleys in the sandstone. Wolgan Valley is considered to be the most beautiful of these valleys. The indigenous people of the Wolgan Valley are the oldest living culture in the world and this territory is home to four aboriginal nations. Colonization of the area by early settlers took place in the early 1800’s.

The Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa is an original homestead which has been restored, using world-class conservation measures, to its original beauty. The resort includes 40 freestanding luxury suites, each with its own private terrace and swimming pool. Although cutting edge technology was used to build the resort, the resort seamlessly blends into the vast and dramatic beauty of Australia’s Wolgan Valley. Keeping in good company with other beautiful Aussie lodges, each guest suite is beautifully furnished.

The Wolgan Valley suites, including Heritage Suites, Wollemi Suites, and the Wolgan Suite, are constructed of wood and stone and designed in Federation-Style. A double-sided fireplace separates the bedroom from the lounge in the Heritage Suites. The Wollemi Suites feature two spacious bedrooms and two en-suite bathrooms. The one Wolgan Suite is the epitome of luxury! It’s set away from the main resort and in the midst of a beautifully landscaped garden with private terraces. It also includes a gourmet kitchen and two bedroom suites with en-suite bathrooms. The third bedroom may be used as private staff quarters. Warm and earthy tones predominate in all of the suites and add to the Resort’s feeling of timeless elegance.

One of pleasures of the Wolgan Valley resort is the Timeless Spa. It offers a broad range of holistic therapies from all over the world, as well as its own signature products. There are also two tennis courts onsite and a fully equipped gym staffed by personal trainers. While each suite has its own plunge pool, there’s also a larger pool available to all guests.

Outdoor pursuits at the Wolgan Valley Resort are amazing! Guests may choose from hiking trails, exploring on horseback, touring by four-wheel drive, mountain biking, wildlife safaris, historical tours, and so much more! On Wolgan’s Wildlife and Sundowner Tour and the Nocturnal Wildlife Spotlighting and Stargazing Tour, guests may see kangaroos, wallaroos, wallabies, and a variety of smaller species.

Dining at the Wolgan Valley Resort is amazing! The menu is extensive and with a definite Australian influence. The food philosophy of the resort is based on seasonal, regional, and organic produce from local boutique farms, and private growers and vintners. A large selection of fruits, nuts, and vegetables are also available from the resort’s kitchen garden.

There are three restaurants at Wolgan Valley Resort, as well as, a private dining option. 24 hour in-room dining is always an option. The Country Kitchen is open from “dawn to dusk.” It serves light meals and snacks made with local ingredients. The Wolgan Dining Rooms serves breakfast and dinner, where seating is either indoor or outdoor, depending on the weather. The Valley Bar and Terrace Lounge features a walk-in wine cellar with 300 different wines, both international and Australian. The Lounge also serves fresh juices, mineral waters, teas and coffees. There is a private dining room for groups of up to 12.
